RESERVED - Modernist Pottery Owl Pair by Joan Priolo 1960's // SCARCE // California Studio Pottery by ThisIsMyBrain

1,100.00 USD

These gorgeous owls are modernist studio pottery pieces by Joan Priolo (1924-1998).
Priolo lived and worked in Marin County and is also noted for her published books on the art of making pottery.

They are in good condition, no chips or cracks. There are some surface scuffs and scratches present to be expected with any unglazed ceramic piece.

Small felt pieces on the base keep these two from damaging furniture, or being scratched or chipped by anything rough.

Larger owl measures 8" x 7", while the smaller guy measures 6" x 5"

These two would be an excellent addition to any ceramics collection, they are very rare and hard to find!

Insurance is included in shipping cost.

I know this is a pricey pair and I would be happy to entertain fair offers from people who wish to give the pair a lovely new home.

I do my best to locate and disclose condition issues. I don't like how I feel if you are not happy with your purchase. Ask any questions you might have beforehand and I'll gladly answer as quick as possible. The items I sell here at This Is My Brain are vintage, they've lived for many decades and there is a time-worn quality that goes along with that. All that said, if you have any condition pet peeves let me know before purchase and I will get out my magnifying glass.

Emil Milan Bird Carving Sculpture Tableware Hors d'oeuvre by ThePapers

Sold

A beautiful Bissilon-wood carving used as an appetizer server by woodworker and sculptor Emil Milan.

Made of Bissilon, the server is in good vintage condition with a few bumps (please see picture of tail specifically).

E Milan trained in sculpture and worked in the Modernist style - mostly creating functional items like bowls, spoons and trays. He is also known for his purely decorative bird sculptures; this lovely item combines elements of decoration and function. It looks like it can be used for toothpicks, but I think it is beautiful as an elegant table piece - the lines are incredible.

Emilan's work appears in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick gallery and is also found in the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC.

15-1/4" long, 3" wide.
